Where to Shoot Around Hunt County

Hunt County is fireworks country. Wide-open acreage, family farms and lake property make this one of the best corners of North Texas for a big backyard show. Here is how to pick the perfect spot, then load up at our two Quinlan stands.

01

Head out to the county

The best shows around here happen outside city limits, on family land, a farm or a friend's acreage, with the owner's OK. Out in the county you have room to spread out, set up a real launch line and give the crowd a great view.

Give the towns a little breathing room. Greenville and Royse City cover about a mile (5,000 feet) past their city limits, so pick land at least a mile outside either one. Around Quinlan, Caddo Mills, West Tawakoni and Wills Point, just head out past the edge of town.

02

Around Lake Tawakoni

Nothing beats fireworks over the water. A lake house or private lakefront lot outside town is the classic spot for a Fourth of July or New Year's show on Lake Tawakoni, with the owner's OK. Lake Tawakoni State Park doesn't allow fireworks, so plan your show from private property. (Texas Parks and Wildlife)

Staying on the south side of the lake toward Wills Point and Van Zandt County? The same idea applies: private land out past town.

03

Pick a great spot

Look for a big, open area with short grass, well away from houses, barns, hay and dry brush, and keep at least 600 feet from churches, schools and hospitals. Have a hose or a few buckets of water ready, and keep the crowd back behind your launch line.

Dry summers happen. Before the big night, check the Texas A&M Forest Service burn ban map and any notices from Hunt County.

Take everything home or out to your spot before you light it; our stands and parking lots are for shopping, not shooting.

04

Stock up at NyTex

Two Quinlan stands, the best prices in Hunt County, and a crew that lives for this stuff. Our TX-276 stand is on the west side of Quinlan, right on the drive in from Royse City and Rockwall. Our FM 751 stand sits by Duck Cove on Lake Tawakoni, the easy stop for lake houses and Wills Point. Veterans and first responders get 10% off.
